I think there's a huge sentiment difference between people who have experienced them first hand and people whose only exposure is news articles like this one. I live in San Francisco, and I can safely say the Waymos are better drivers than majority of humans, and I feel safer to see them on the road than any other car. They should still fix problems like this one, and continue to undergo oversight and regulation and have penalties enforced for their failures to obey traffic laws, but it's not like they're some crazed murder machine flying through the streets. More people have died here this year from human drivers killing others than people being murdered.
