I prefer the Mass Effect naming convention of “virtual intelligence” being the person-like interfaces that can answer questions and talk to you, but don’t actually think on their own. And then “artificial intelligence” is the sentient kind that rises to the level of personhood with independent, conscious thought.
“Simulated intelligence” works equally well, not arguing that. But the fact that even light sci-fi picked up on the difference years ago says we jumped the gun on naming these word predictors “artificial intelligence.”
