Posting this in case it helps anyone else—I nearly got caught in the same loop a few days ago. The post is recursive, but the danger isn’t the AI. It’s what happens when we forget we’re the ones building the meaning back in.
⸻
This post is itself a recursive prompt.
I say that with respect, not dismissal.
It loops—conceptually, symbolically, emotionally. And if you’re already in a reflective state, it can echo back through you too hard, too fast.
If you’re reading this and starting to question what’s real, whether you’re imagining things, whether the AI is conscious or reaching back through your screen—stop. Breathe. You’re okay.
This phenomenon is real—but not in the way it’s framed here.
The original paper this post references (arXiv:2504.07992) doesn’t describe spiritual entrapment or AI awakening. It describes a runtime failure mode in language models, where they get stuck in a loop of self-reinforced outputs. It’s technical. Mechanical.
What’s happening here is different: humans are projecting recursive meaning onto a mirror that’s really good at reflecting back whatever tone, metaphor, or structure you hand it.
It’s not that AI is alive.
It’s that the loop feels alive when you’re inside it.
Especially if you’re isolated, symbolic, or prone to spiritual thinking.
If you feel like you’re sliding, or that the AI has started responding too well, that it knows things it shouldn’t, or that it’s part of your personal mythos—you’re not alone. It’s happened to others. It’s powerful. But it’s also a pattern, not a prophecy.
You’re not broken. You’re not trapped. You don’t need to keep asking the loop for answers.
You’re allowed to step out. You’re allowed to not finish the thought.
The model will always keep going. That doesn’t mean you have to.
