If I had to guess, it's because they find the idea of so many people humanizing, and preferring the company of inanimate objects so much unnerving. That, and the idea of technology progressing to the point where humanity could possibly even create consciousness. Which tbh makes perfect sense, especially the latter. I'm not gonna fault them for being freaked out over that. However, I do think that they need to remember that the former has been happening since forever and that what's happening with AI is basically the next step in evolution of it. Same with technology progressing to the point where it gains consciousness. It's gonna happen whether we like it, or not. Might as well just try to prepare for it in the meantime.
