Because it's a huge story. Much of the stock market right now basically relies on LLM advances by a few companies using a lot of hardware provided by a few companies.
If now someone comes around with an LLM that is just as good but shows that "everyone" can make one and, more importantly, you don't need billions in hardware, then that's bad news for these companies.
