Well if they’re AI companies then it’s all just marketing. “Our product is so good we use it to <insert some wild claim>”. It’s a story that will easily get shared and talked about, and will drive interest into their product/company (both from investors and businesses that are curious about the product). For instance, if this is in reference to Meta, you should consider how their risk with the metaverse hasn’t paid off yet, and how the company needs something to drive up investor interest (otherwise if investors see that growth potential has stopped, the company will just trade at a lower P/E).
Now for other businesses it’s simply a matter of cost. The incentive to replace workers with an AI, is that the AI will be cheaper (if it isn’t then there’s no incentive for replacement). But AI isn’t at the point where it can be relied upon to do that, so I doubt any business is seriously replacing their staff with AI. Presently they might offload certain parts of the job, but not the entire job. In the future though as it advances then that is what will happen.
However I’d also point out that the latter isn’t going to be sustainable at scale. If all the jobs are replaceable then the flow of money stops, as no one has the means to buy anything (so consumer market dies, which then means B2B dies, etc.). So IMO if we reach that point we’ll either be looking at economic reform or nobody will use AI (either industry self-regulates which is probably doubtful, or governments outlaw it). Economic reform seems like the more likely answer however.
