Think oligarchy but game of thrones style corporate conglomerate level small groups of families run the entire country. housing rent availability is based off of what company you work for (SK has weird renting structures where you have to put up 60-80% market rate value of house up front as a deposit to even secure rental properties). Its called the Jeonse system for rent. So its pretty nefarious job paying deposit for rental property and really tough to land jobs at the mega corps so you have a brighter future, very strong societal pressures to conform to one standard as well. Sort of why you see big spikes in sucide recently in many SEA countries with strict work cultures, or the "let it rot" "lay flat" counter culture movements in China.
