In the late 1990s we had a similar issue with non-academics getting in on the Internet action. Back then it was called the "Eternal September" (September typically having something to do with University admissions when all the new students got accounts and the equivalent of reddit and facebook back in those days got flooded with noobs). What I'm perceiving now is very much in line with the Eternal September, except instead of corporations shoving advertising into everything and technology-illiterate people and spam mail it's corporations shoving AI into everything and technology-illiterate people and spam mail.
