LLMs like GPT 3 or GPT 4 are autoregressive language models. They predict the most likely word from the previous sequence of words. ChatGPT basically does this. With the formatting of "System: You are a helpful assistant User: How do birds fly? Assistant: " And ChatGPT will try to predict the next most probable words after "Assistant:" But because ChatGPT creates probability distributions, and doesn't get to choose what word gets selected from that distribution, the wrong words may be chosen. and the wrong response will be created as a snowball effect. u/F0xmaster
