I am actually on the side of fair use in this particular argument, but I am chomping at the bit for this to actually be tested in courts. It's been gray area for the past half decade of generative AI, and is now firmly entrenching itself in society - We reeeeally need some proper legal guidance on if the training method is transformative enough (and if the paper excuse of "I found this on the open internet" is reason enough for defense of scraping copyrighted works). We need an answer here and controls around dataset collection and usage. what those rules are, I have no clue yet, but it needs to happen.
