The question is who would want to become a creative if their works could be ripped off and they couldn't make a living off of it  Not just a living but a fortune. Why not? Maybe the greater good would be irrevocably harmed if an author couldn't make a billion dollars from their books. Writing books is hard and the success to failure ratio might demand a billion dollar payout. A lot of people start certain careers to get rich and why should creatives be denied that? More importantly without the potential to get wealthy maybe we don't see any more A list actors, everything and everyone avoids it and we all consume AI generated mush and slush So in the end you absolutely have to protect IP and people's right to get wealthy out of it
