I’m an American but I’ve since moved to Europe as of summer last year. Something I’ve realized, in a really jarring way is the way our data is used in the US is not normal around the rest of the world. That isn’t to say data brokering doesn’t exist elsewhere, but coming away from it, the magnitude of it in the US is far worse. The fact that there’s all kinds of paid packages, software, AI and more that has your info just out there for whoever wants to purchase it, or any company that wants to sell you things. John Oliver had a good segment on this. It’s completely jarring. It only seems like it’s getting worse too. Even without software, on the surface web, you can use all kinds of people searcher websites that I haven’t found to be as prevalent in other countries. Just crazy.
