The right in the US is insane and offers no real solutions to the most important problems faced by the vast majority of the population. Most are Trump boot lickers which immediately renders good faith discussion impossible. Even the handful of non-Trumpers support evil policies like opposing universal healthcare, refusing to address gun violence, banning abortion, "trickle down" taxes (that do not work), reducing government services, restricting voting rights, and many others. There's also the fact that nearly all Republican politicians refuse to act in good faith or honour agreements like when they nominated a far-right judge after promising they wouldn't near the end of Obama's second term. There's not much point in taking the "high road" to engage Republicans in good faith when they refuse to do it themselves. Democrat politicians would be better off ignoring Republicans and figuring out how to get the sane majority to care enough to vote.
