Regarding the first point, I do agree with you, people should be able to opt in or out. Although, and to be fair, you were never forced to upload your stuff to the internet. Your information was already being scrapped and sold... so this is not new, this issue has been here since the start of social media and even before that. Even if you could opt out so your art is not used in any generative models, people would still scrape the site in which the image is hosted, so you are fucked either way. The only way to not let big corpos steal your data is to just not share it, be off-grid. Heck, even if big corpos couldn't steal your data (legally), individuals could. By the way, it being and old issue doesn't mean it stopped being an issue... it just means that this is the natural evolution of things, and that probably this will keep ongoing, and it won't get more "ethical". And maybe this is controversial, but I think it is already pretty ethical, since before social media if you wanted to make money with your art... you didn't have such a good way to share it and make a name by yourself. You can't have both things sadly. "Democratization" of the LLMs will happen too, every new generation of graphics cards and processors is more powerful than the last, meaning they can run larger LLMs using the same amount of electricity, giving them better outputs. And this can be done for free already, there are public AIs you can download and try for yourself. Of course, if your PC sucks you won't be able to do that, but the AI corpos won't have a monopoly on this data. Honestly, I don't think good artists will disappear and lose their jobs because of AI, at least not this type of AI. These big LLMs can only copy and paste, they don't really have a creative side. Heck, even if they had one, I think that people would still choose to pay freelancers like they have done for the past 20 years online. The people that never paid artists before and that now are using AI to produce art, were never going to contribute a single cent to your art anyways, so it doesn't really matter... and big companies aren't the only places you can get hired, heck... I doubt most people living from art are hired, they are probably freelancers. Sorry for the rant, I am just tired, bored and high. Peace.
