This is the critical distinction I think. If I'm calling or starting a chat session, it's because I *need something done* that I can't do myself. I don't ever start a chat session just to get information, as all that's probably on the company's website anyway. In my experience interacting with automated systems, pretty much all of them were only able to share information. Until that expands to allow bots to take action, I don't see their utility increasing much, regardless of how nice they might sound or how quickly they can respond.
