I thought it was brilliant how self aware congress was, taking about regulatory capture and its general slow, corrupt and ineffective ways. I’m starting to think Congress might be sentient. If their goal was to grandstand and make me think they were all going to save humanity with transparency and forward thinking it worked on me. I could openAI is gravitating toward a perspective of convenience, drawing “the line” where is convenient for them. Reminds me how trump seems to get away with everything by just admitting to it and acting like it doesn’t matter; re Jr “He just tweeted it out….” That said, if Altman is the character he portrays (which I think is likely) then maybe he is the person best positioned to make the decision of where to draw the line objectively and has positioned openAI accordingly. Ironically, being a shrewd businessman who can outcompete rivals so thoroughly that they suck up most of the oxygen (capital available) could be what prevents a less virtuous company from getting control of the this possibly inevitable godlike power that’s coming It might be in his best interest to be that person he portrays, even if it was just what he aspires to currently. It could be that the future of competitive edge in cutting edge businesses is having a founder/CEO that acts as a lightning rod for the most talented people who will work twice as long for half the pay as competitors. I know this is an idea that’s been written about and seems to be happening around Elon. Hopefully St. Altman will save us all and deliver us to the promised land!
