Yeah it's really a matter of balancing principles with innovation. European countries in general really value privacy and so these next few years will reveal if they think that is worth it even if it means missing out on the AI boom. I think there might be a real debate on whether AI specific technologies should even be left to the private sector. Not because of productivity/innovative reasons (private sector is obviously much better for this technology) but for security reasons. I don't think governments are keen on leaving such a vast power to Sam Altman & Co.
