Making vaccines is very difficult and needs a lot of highly trained staff and well designed facilities. It’s totally understandable that a major vaccine manufacturing company would want to avoid outsourcing to less developed areas where quality is not as strictly controlled.
Imagine if one of these less developed countries manufactures a vaccine based off the Pfizer patent for example. One small error and the entire vaccine effectiveness or safety will be in question for every manufacturer using that patent.
