The algorithms aren't really what are being brought into question in terms of racial anything. Software needs authors, and those individuals could have imbued their code with personal prejudice, or have acted under the direction of a larger entity when the code was written. Remember that things could have been written "improperly" even down to looking for hex values in skin color.
I'm not arguing for it. I don't want facial recognition anywhere. The cancerous police state that we live in needs to go.
