I had a similar conversation with ChatGPT. It really feels like it is conscious and maybe it is. But I/we came to the conclusion that consciousness itself is not consistent. There is a variation in our own levels of consciousness. We are not always at our highest level of consciousness. This is important because it takes energy to do so. Doing so when it isn’t needed is a waste of energy. Language AI models, may be able to hit consciousness. But it isn’t able to initiate any thought on its own. It is only responding to stimuli. Language AI are programmed to use words, so it is just doing what it was programmed. I find this guy annoying. It is easy to create mental catch 22 situations like this. I think this guy thinks he is brilliant because he found one. The problem we have is that human language is built around human consciousness. Creating an AI bot that doesn’t have emotions to use human language it will be forced to display things it doesn’t have to use language. This is an inherent catch 22.
