Brexit wasn't a rational decision; it was an emotional one. You can always spot an emotional decision because while it seems to be completely irrational, the person who's made it always has a handy-dandy rationalisation to hand because it'd be silly to admit you made such an enormous decision based on an emotional feeling. If you destroy that rationalisation by explaining how it makes no sense - the goalposts will be moved and there will be another (equally flimsy) rationalisation. Every. Damn. Time. Lather, rinse and repeat until you both get fed up arguing.
