Thing is, bitcoin wasn't really compromised. People just adapted to it.
As the article mentions, there were ways to obfuscate their identity. But they simply didn't take those options.
It's a cat and mouse game, but as long as bitcoin has a public ledger, and as long as exchanges require your identity, there will be points of contact with the real world where it can be researched.
