Although I agree that facial recognition does need to be regulated, I do not agree with the article on that banning it would be better. The main difference is that regulating it you acknowledge the whole spectrum of the technology and watch for misuse and misapplication, but by banning it straight out, you basically equal the face unlock feature with china's "automatic jaywalking fine dispenser". By banning a technology you also lock yourself from additional research, giving other countries the ability to capitalize on that and also reduce the "counter-technology" development because "there is no need for it". I mean I would rather know what anti facial recognition accessory to wear that beats the newest facial recognition tech, than be told "it's banned, there is no facial recognition you don't need it", knowing that in reality that is available I just don't know who and where is being used. ​ TLDR: Ban the misuse not the tech....
