>You gotta be kidding me. Do such thing/proposal even exist in a business world? Sure it does. Companies all the time negotiate deals that say "if you want to buy our products, you have to agree that we'll become your sole supplier." So the buyer has to decide whether it's worth it to him to have ONLY coke, or have no Coke at all. The basic standard for international trade for 50 years has been "most favored nation status." Countries are allowed to protect their domestic industries if they want, but the best terms they offer to any single trading partner must be offered to the rest of the WTO, unless certain exceptions apply. If you follow the WTO ground rules on free trade, you get MFN status with every WTO member. Trump THINKS that he can use America's economic clout to bully other countries into trade deals on beneficial terms. That he should be able to pick and choose and those countries need American goods more than we need their stuff. He also seems to think that if Chinese people only buy $100B worth of Chinese goods, but America buys $500B worth of American goods that america is "losing." Both of those ideas are fundamentally contrary to the way international trade is structured.
