They also tend to be very specific in their applications right now, right? As in, you have different ones trained to do very specific things, so they can't exactly threaten the world unless you make them to specifically do that on purpose? It's not as if they'll somehow combine and form skynet or some other fictional AI.
More like a screwdriver or a hammer than a human hand, in how variable their uses are.
It looks to me that this article is more about their uses as a tool than them doing something by accident though.
