If enough self-driving car owners get out of the insurance pools or pay significantly reduced premiums (whatever that threshold is), rates for people-driven cars will probably have to go up to maintain those sweet sweet shareholder profits. Just like some states had to increase the gas taxes once hybrids & electrics became prevalent enough for them to lose enough in that tax to notice. The federal government should just nationalize all auto insurance once self-driving cars hit the roads en masse. Essentially USAA for everyone, cuz they already provide it for armed forces.
