There will always be people who are, for lack of a better word, stupid. It's how a normal distribution works. For every genius, you have an unskilled person. Unskilled people should not be condemned to poverty, starvation and death (through lack of healthcare) because they aren't smart enough to be STEM. Beyond that, with the ever increasing automation of all systems, even STEM is not safe. Should people in general, smart and not so smart, be condemned to poverty, starvation, and death because there are only so many jobs left in America that are "specialized" and the rest are left without work? It's not a question of whether or not Americans should be manufacturing T-shirts, but what safe-guards we're going to put in place (such as a living-wage minimum-wage, universal health care, or even something like a basic income) to guarantee that our citizens aren't left to be homeless, begging for food, and dying from treatable diseases because they weren't lucky enough to be on the "intelligent" end of the normal curve, or because they aren't lucky enough to get one of the ever-decreasing living-wage-paying "specialized" jobs available in their field.
