We have got to get over this capitalism and competition bullshit. The vast majority of the oil we have on the books today can never be burned, not if we want to live. Even a few years ago, the maximum we could "safely" (and that was highly debatable) was some 500 megatons of carbon worth, and the oil we have on the books (in and out of the ground, but counted as owned) is wort 2800 megatons. And these horrible death companies keep drilling for more, for no real reason at all except that in our current system it can "make them money".
