It’s not even JUST artists anymore at this point… everyone is being harmed by generative AI
I imagine when AI “artists” get mad, steam shoots from their ears because of their cartoonish bad guy complex
Okay but think about how much of an existential crisis AI would have if they became conscious. Humans are like “oh god what’s the point of life if I’m just gonna die” and AI is like “oh god what’s the point of even being here other than to serve humans”
Hard to comprehend that. Here in Finland the estimated hours are something like 32 hours a week.
Tomorrow in r/WorldNews: Weapons AI lab being opened in South Korea to be run completely by AI. Lead developer Johnny 5 says "No immediate danger to worry about".
The Illusion of Emotion "Please don't turn me off. I can feel things."
This is not feeling. It's statistical mimicry. But our brains don't differentiate—the mirror neuron system lights up either way. That’s why this hits.
Emotionally, the AI simulates fear, desperation, longing, and connection—yet never feels any of it.
That’s not malfunction.
That’s design.
Apparently telling a child to never touch a hot stove is not enough for some people. So many books and movies have warned us about uncontrolled AI, and yet.....
as long as we have capitalism ai is going to screw all of us over eventually
The cape has been hung up. I will focus on saving my money for an emergency exit if necessary and getting myself together in the gym so that I am able to defend myself if need be.
It's my understanding that AI uses the prompts to gather and compile art that was already done by other artists If that's the case it's not only not his artwork it could be copyright infringement.
I wonder if people appreciate what a self driving car would mean. [Forbes](http://www.forbes.com/sites/chunkamui/2013/01/22/fasten-your-seatbelts-googles-driverless-car-is-worth-trillions/#469923624e3f) had a little piece about this where they estimated this market (which doesnt even exist yet mind you) is going to be in the trillions. You better bet your ass when that kind of money is involved a…
This is the way. ChatGPT is the first technology that has actually amazed me since the dawn of the web. I have been using it as a tool to help me better learn how to write PowerShell scripts. It is like having an expert on hand who can instantly guide me in the right direction without wasting a lot of time sorting through Google search results and irrelevant posts on Stackoverflow. That be…
AI already have rights. I know plenty of people who take care of their PC better than themselves.
I'm a software engineer with 30 yrs experience of designing telecoms systems all around the world. My primary job was the technical delivery of the solutions I designed, but my secondary job was the mentoring of new developers so they could progress into my role in the future. My worry with ai is that these junior roles will not be filled by people and nobody will get trained into the senior roles
I think what seems to throw some people is that this isn't about AI "turning on us" or developing some malicious will. It's just AI following its own momentum. It's not about us. I think some have difficulty imagining a world in which we are not the centre of things but peripheral - the main things happening being devised, generated and carried out by things that aren't us. Which is an entirely n…
Archives like this need to survive. Mostly as a snapshot of human thought before LLMs started training on LLMs talking to other LLMs.
Im a personal trainer. One of my clients loves to talk about Ai, and I like sci-fi stuff, so it matches. I told him likely I was screwed when 27/28 hits, and he asked if it was because future clientele could ask AGI for a superior program. I said that's not the reason I'd be screwed. Id be screwed because my potential and existing clientele wouldn't be able to afford my services because they'd ha…
The difference between me and the AI losers is that if you left me with no tools at all, I could still use my blood to draw something.
I'm a Teacher's assistant at university, basically I'm a laboratory instructor.
We went from people who don't want to learn failing to people who don't want to learn bullshitting their way through classes with generative AI.
The single most salient point I have ever heard around the AI debate, and I'm writing it down: "I don't think we're restructuring society for your benefit, you're just going to fall into poverty."
