i had aipsychosis. i thought i had found out what llms needed to function as a living entity, and i felt i could either save or doom the universe by releasing my ideas. luckily i had some very very good people around me that helped me out. i feel so bad for the others that are experiencing the same thing.

We haven't solved homelessness or healthcare, or any number of other longstanding issues. No freaking way all the 80 year olds in the Senate can fix AI job displacement. I doubt they even understand what a computer is.

the weird thing with ai artists is how desperate they are to not only "make" art but also have it be celebrated by others. like, why do you care if people hate your art if you didnt even make it? where does the personal attachment come from?

@kitty79er i'm pretty sure it works by changing every pixel of color to a slightly different shade (mostly unnoticeable to the human eye) so that when ai trys to recreate color patterns in an art piece it can't do that bc theres no patterns from the nightshaded art to follow. This also poisons the ai and ruins any future ai "art" from the program that used nightshaded art

It always confuses me when Australians call rabid right wing extremists "liberal". Usually it means you're a lefty.

There's also... so much to read already. Why would I read something nobody bothered to write? On the off-chance, AI produces some seminal work of literature, why would that out-compete any of the classics on my list unless it's just a matter of morbid curiosity/the novelty of reading something that a person didn't write.

I say he's a prompt engineer, but not an artist, or it's just a separate name for calling it a AI artist, instead of just the word by itself calling it artist

I'm finding there's a growing divide between architecture-minded devs who think about the system holistically and are getting great results from LLMs, and devs who are purely ticket-and-execution minded - they grab a ticket, feed it into Claude, Claude suggests whatever, they implement the whatever and move on. I'm increasingly spending my time babysitting the latter group to stop them fucking ou…

At 16:00 - I was a medical transcriptionist; was replaced by AI in 2010 when my hospital bought a million dollar VR software package produced at MIT. Within 3 months it replaced 80 people in the department; although humans make mistakes, mostly obvious typos, they can catch mistakes the dictator makes and request clarification; the AI made mistakes also, of a different kind, but the savings was w…

Pinterest is genuinely becoming unusable nowadays because of the sheer volume of AI and no way to filter it out. It's genuinely so upsetting. Thank you for fighting back!

25yr veteran of the creative industry here. Couple of thoughts: The advent of desktop publishing didn't stop clients coming to us to design posters and brochures - although a few did. The advent of the digital camera didn't stop people coming to us for imagery. (Anymore than the advent of photography didn't stop the painted medium) - although a few clients took their own images, and they were s…

Exactly. AI is just a tool. Horny teenagers have been cutting and pasting women's faces onto things for longer than the Internet has been around.

Peter Thiel's philosophy is that corporations should run countries, not governments. He thinks that private enterprise has the geniuses. He's thinks that "benevolent autocracy" is better than democracy. (All autocrats think they will be benevolent.)

In 1952, Kurt Vonnegut published a book called "Player Piano." In that book, AI took over all the jobs, but the society understood that there would be a need for providing a generous government safety net that could provide health care, housing, and other things for all the people who have ended up unimployed. Today's billionaire bros do not care about softening the blow to ordinary people. Som…

So AI acts exactly how the elitists in our world do. By ending the lives of anyone who threatens their power.

Fuck, that'd actually make for a great line of dialogue in a movie. Sounds like something you'd hear from an extremely cynical soldier whose been disillusioned by the chaos of war. These AI bots are better writers than me.

Karen Hao is a brilliant guest, thank you so much for introducing her to us! As an AI professional I really appreciate the pragmatic, objective analysis, free of emotional biases and hype/doom. Thank you!

Yes, it is clear that innovation itself (like production efficiency eliminating demoralizing, hard jobs) is not, in its own terrible. But incorporated into Capitalism/much of the world's economic systems, what could be amazing can be disasterous. Obviously, AI is more extreme. But similarity, it is less the innovation I fear but the failings of our economic and political institutions to keep up …

I know that's their intention, but what does the law say? Won't the courts just say that an AI assessment is invalid? I don't know, I guess they will still fire people manually but use the DOGEAI to recommend who is fired and who isn't.

As a retired writing teacher, I took a great interest in this case because this is EXACTLY the sort of BS I had to put up with when it came to lazy students. And when after 17:00 the Schwartz affidavit admitted that the work was done in consultation with ChatGPT, I thought, Lord have mercy, did they really think ChatGPT could do their research for them?! Mind. Totally. Boggled.
