We've been sleepwalking into a serious water shortage catastrophe for years and while i welcome the fuck you to chatGPT, the sheer level of resources AI consumes for basic knowledge or even incorrect answers is a serious threat whether it's ChatGPT or Claude or whatever other AI system is out there. The convenience is not worth the sheer damage these systems will do in the long run.

Same thing happened to a dude in a casino. AI said he was a formerly trespassed person with 99% certainty. Police ignored his legitimate ID and jailed him.

Why do some people treat everything labeled as an AI as some kind of all-knowing oracle? This level of stupidity *should* be too high for law enforcement. If someone tried to sell them a program that picks a random person and called it an AI, I wouldn't be surprised if they fell for it.

I think a lot of people only read the headline.  I think I saw it here yesterday and read it.  It's a very pro AI article that uncritically restates a lot of Anthropic's ludicrous statements and seemingly without attributions beyond Anthropic's own polls says the sabotage is backfiring.

Surely there's a very valid reason for that to get more popular. "Does AI have consciousness" is just an abstract thought experiment with no real consequences if there's no AI around. But if we're on the verge of **creating** AI, it becomes one with serious real-world consequences, going from "thought experiment" to "possibility we're damning millions of conscious entities to unending slavery".…

If Disney hadn't killed the public domain by lobbying for unreasonable long times for copyright then maybe AI-image generators wouldn't need to use copyrightable material. But I feel the real reason people suggest one should only use the public domain for training is that people know that the public domain is mostly irrelevant.
