Is there an ELI5 of this? Maybe I'm missing it but the article doesn't explain why these adresses are generated. What if another person generates the same name? How are they forced to be unique?

I’ve had my reservations about Trudeau (still do regarding some of his older policies) but goddamn, I’d rather have him as a leader who’s trying to help our countrymen than a certain someone doing his best to get us all killed

You mean people who already didn’t have an income are not all of a sudden gonna get some free cash from the government. If you made over 5K last year you qualify. Sounds about right to me.

My girlfriend live there for two years and I can say without question their sense of paitrotism, unity, and that "we act as one" mentality is unparalleled in any society, Japan gets close but I think Korea is more unified across all factions and classes.

Will the job losses last as long as the 09 crisis though? The 09 crisis wiped out many businesses and banks that would loan startup money right away, while the pandemic has caused many more businesses to shut down or restrict business temporarily and theoretically the vast majority of those jobs will be back at least when the most are vaccinated if not sooner.

A big problem is foreign investments in the US housing market. While it’s in a decline foreign entities still put $74b into the us housing market. Only 8% of the 154k homes sold to foreign homebuyers were for $1m+. They build luxury condos that citizens can’t afford, exploit college student turnover to constantly raise rent in places like LA, and create low cost + high turnover housing for Airbnb…

Is not just manufacturing. The "middle man" is the easiest to replace right now. Sales people had a legitimate function. To help you find something to buy. Amazon, online menus, ebay, youtube, even reddit are all using strong automation to replace the sales person and a ton of mid level market organizers. If you have a factory ready to make widgets, and no one is buying them, don't worry. A few …

How do you know they're full? That's the problem again, this video is concerning but proves shit sadly.

There has already been technology that replaces entire workers, look at agriculture, look at automation with cars and stuff. Now look at all the jobs that have come about. There will always be something. You're afraid cause we as humans can't fathom what new opportunities will arise. But they will

I hate this argument. No, we COULD put it back into the cage. It's just extremely hard with the state of the world as it is right now. Ignoring the bureauceatic nightmare of modern governments, people themselves just are far more pessimistic and apathetic about the future and incurring change than they were like 100 years ago. We are no longer the type of people to demand revolution, we are now t…

This isn't a put it back in the bottle conversation, otherwise we wouldn't be talking about pausing simply GPT4 Same as TikTok ate Facebook's lunch and now we have a bill written by Facebook to kill TikTok. This is an attack from open AI competitors that are unable to compete.

Yup, a Samsung employee put CCI in it and it was kind of a big deal, we even got briefed about it and I’m not even an engineer: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-05-02/samsung-bans-chatgpt-and-other-generative-ai-use-by-staff-after-leak?leadSource=uverify%20wall That being said, there will be an enterprise version coming out that should prevent this.

Looking forward to the AI scam calls where they don’t have an Indian accent and have unlimited patience stealing every last dollar from everyone’s life savings. They could rob entire neighborhoods in less than an hour.

It will become expensive for departments and cities to keep using this as defense lawyers get more adept at challenging these facial recognition results. When they start losing trials because they relied on faulty systems, they'll modify. For many it will be too late and there is no guarantee whatever they go with next will be any better.

I read the FAA is expanding their facial recognition usage after they found it to be 97% accurate. But that means it’s wrong for 3 out of 100 people. That’s pretty bad! Especially when thousands of people come through every day

If trump had won the presidency, Ukraine would be lucky to have gotten 5% of what we’ve sent them. Our republicans are severe problems and getting worse.

It is amusing that it specifically says "do not just say various or diverse". Throwback to when image generation first came out, and every single prompt it sent to Dalle had some iteration of "diverse and various people are in the image" to the point where it genuinely felt forced, especially when it didn't actually generate any diverse imagery in the first place. I guess try as it might some tra…
