It's right there in the name: Large Language Model. It's basically a disembodied broca's area. That in itself is an amazing achievement, but it doesn't have the ability to actually think about a problem and come to a reasoned conclusion. But it sure can spit out some words that look like they were written by someone who did.
After the bubble bursts, and the subsequent recovery, decades from now when you no longer get laughed at for working with these things, someone is going to figure out how to give these things an inner monologue or equivalent.
Then we're doomed.
