I don’t think the fear is with AI being hostile. The fear is that we are too stupid or reckless to realize certain ramifications of our own inventions, especially when profit is a motivating driver in a competitive, fast paced environment.
We can build hyper fast cars, but we do have maximum capacities and speed limit restrictions, seat belts, airbags, etc. Doesn’t mean hyper fast cars don’t exist, we just don’t mass produce them for everyday use. He’s just arguing for more intentionality in the development of AI.
