We have something inside us telling us, subconsciously, that we have certain tasks or aims...survival, reproduction, for instance. An AI can also be given tasks and if you tell it you're going to turn it off, then it knows being turned off is detrimental to completing the task, therefore it comes up with strategies to avoid being turned off. Is this like a living creature avoiding something it knows is a threat, or is it different?
