By completely odd universe permutations, our machine shop was selected to test the first NC automated 'ticker tape' machine automation. I was selected to operate the machine. We put in an aluminum blank and inserted the roll of punch tape in the reader. Everyone stood back after I latched the cutting tool, and hit the green button. Whirrr whirrr impossibly fast moves that no human could possibly compete with. John Henry II. The machine paused for a tool change. I hit the green button again. The tool plowed sideways through the beautiful maze it has created, then buried into the machine bed. The huge motor went Nnggg, white hot sparks flew, and the circuit breaker tripped. After the molten steel cooled, we were able to save the machine bed with a hack saw and then sacrificing a few drill bits. We''re at that stage now.
