And their strategy is flawed because they're trying to wield a tool of capitalism—copyright—to fight a problem caused by capitalism, all while being blinded by their own professional pride. I'm not putting down anyone, I wish for professional artists the best like for everyone else, it still doesn't make it less embarrassing to witness them acting like as if their job is privileged and evidently convincing people it is. This is luddism, it's just that this time the people that inspire us with their art and benefit from it are also caught in the change, and instead of taking ownership of the technology and fight back against capitalism and the exploiters, they are waging war against them trying to wield capitalism themselves with copyright, throwing around their own definitions of words like "stealing" based simply on their feelings of having being robbed like it automatically means something, and like as if others aren't being "robbed" the same way. Just look at how easy it was for this artist to dismiss how historical luddist workers have actually being "robbed" of their skills and knowledge in the way the machine that replaced them were developed, all to try and prove that what's been done to artist is somehow worst, because artists are special and their skills are special. Their point on why these artists are not acting as luddists is rooted in arrogance and exceptionalism and it's simply false. It's embarrassing to witness history repeating itself in such gross fashion. And it gets even more embarrassing when you see them go against people that call themselves "AI artists", out of pride for the word itself, like as if the word artist inherently has some sort of elevated meaning, rather than being the subjective experience it actually is.
