The people who are sounding the alarm are the world's leading experts. Top AI scientists, top AI engineers. These aren't people who are afraid of new things. These are people who were very excited about the technology they were helping to create, until they worked out that it is very likely to lead to the destruction of humanity. There are deep technical reasons for this.
Heck, the leaders of PauseAI are mostly techno-optimists! We just understand the science and listen to the majority of experts who say that this is a serious risk.
