She's not copying the photography at all. She's just using it as a reference, which is completely different from what AI does. An AI just mashes together knowledge of what it has seen to create an image. So many advocates of AI argue that inspiration is "the same thing," but the difference is that artists add something to the image, something that makes it their own. Art is the culmination of an artist's own personal style, thoughts, feelings and emotions spun together with their knowledge and what they've seen. An AI adds nothing to an image; it physically cannot, because it is not a living creature. AI does not have a style, nor does it possess unique thoughts and experiences, because it is simply a machine built to replicate the work of others. Calling someone who generate AI images an artist is like calling someone a writer when they just copy and paste sentences from other people's works without adding anything new.
