So do most researchers, including computer scientists. University research is generally done with no monetary compensation, and freely available to all. Literally your life work as a researcher given away for free, to be used and iterated upon. For the advancement of humanity. Stable Diffusion for example, started in a university; LMU. My dad's uni. Which is why it remains freely available for all that want to.
