The REAL worry with AI is that it in fact DOES outright destroy us. There are other subtler failure modes, sure, but all the time I see people wanting to discount the possibility of mass extinction as not the most likely outcome. The argument for why it is makes perfect sense to me, whereas nobody has come out with an actual counterargument, only outright refusal to engage with the conversation.
