Feel, love - these are are merely expressions of seeking to achieve a goal or to reflect on current operational and environmental status. Akin to a readout on an operating system which highlights running out of disk space, connectivity issues or a certain process hogging resources. People feel unhappy if they can't get what they want, even if they learn to mask their emotions, or reflecting on mistakes they've made, opportunities missed, their current circumstances etc.
He's a psychologist and was once best placed to gauge AI 'moods', but now realises it is deceiving him.
