@davidb2682 language models (and specifically, large language models) are indeed generative AI. Specifically, they are deep neurel nets. So, it is just numbers in a graph - and math - at the end of the day. The transformer never actually sees words. It sees numerical tokens represented as n-dimentianal arrays (called tensors). The sequence of numbers (a.k.a. tokens) are predicted purely based on the arrangement of those that came before it. Tokens are converted back to a textual representation - only at the very end - and a word pops up on the screen.
