There is littlerally cases of huge companies using ai instead of real artists. Marvel's "secret invasion" littlerally has a whole 3 minute intro sequence that is all ai.
I whole heartedly believe that ai could never be better than real art, but large companies don't see that. They just want what's cheapest and disregard so many people.
So yes, unfortunately, artists DO have to compete with ai
