This! Musenet (OpenAI's previous music-making generator before ChatGPT) made music out of a data set that're either public domain or given by consenting individuals/groups. These were donated by two groups that're linked from the site, so you could see them for yourself if you were ever curious.
Having AI not steal artists' content is definitely a doable thing. Given a non-intrusive dataset and gathering method, I could entirely see AI art as a helpful tool for beginner artists to study how stuff like composition and perspectives work, seeing as I (an artist) had to look at and study lots of different examples to better grasp them for future projects.
It's not an inherently intrusive technology, but it's also not a blameless one. There's multiple chances for people to come in and be malicious with its process and usage to be assholes and greedy, so theres still a level of concern to be had with who uses them.
