So the thing that you and most people are missing is that WHEN the job losses start in earnest, one thing will be DIFFERENT THIS TIME from every past period of job loss: This time, it will be OBVIOUS to everyone everywhere that the jobs are never, EVER coming back. 1 in 3 people on this planet, just as one quick example, make a living driving a vehicle of some sort, whether delivery van, semi, tractor, fork lift, dump truck, lawn mower, taxi, Uber, etc. etc. etc. Now look at Waymo and realize they just completed their 10 MILLIONTH trip self driving a car in one of 4 major cities, and with an 85% decrease in accidents per mile. Unless you think driving a tractor in a field or a lawn mower is more complicated than navigating the streets of San Francisco during rush hour, what are the chances you give that ALL those driving jobs are destined to DISAPPEAR just as quickly as companies can get their products out there? Therefore, when this all starts going down, we rather quickly (days or weeks, not months) have UBI or we have anarchy. PERIOD. Now, I'm betting that the 1% would like to be able to go golfing or shopping, or just get some fresh air without the need for a militia to guard them from being cooked and eaten by the starving masses. Thus, they will most all acquiesce to UBI being initiated to maintain a civil society around them.
