I do agree that using AI to solve an entire task (such as "write my essay") is wrong, as you won't learn from it. But entirely rejecting AI is not the way either. We must learn to coexist. For instance, in the business of programming, AI is used by practically everyone who codes. Why? Because having write the simpler, mundane code drastically raises your productivity and allows you to focus on the more interesting parts of the program. In the case of an essay, many students use ChatGPT to help them understand the material better, thus making *them* better in the process.
Taking this to art is a bit harder, since having the AI draw won't ever make you better at drawing. However, it does open up the world of art to people not as gifted, or even to people unable to do art in the first place because of a disability. As for the whole "stealing art" argument; I don't think of it as stealing, as long as the sample size and sample diversity is large enough. For example, Sam's story of the guy having a sample size of only 300 images from the same artist I would consider stealing. But not an AI trained on millions upon millions of very diverse images.
And as AI gets better at recognizing small details in art pieces, it will eventually become a tool artists can use to help their skills grow as well.
