​@asya-35987 I was making a moralistic statement, but if you want to have a practical reason, I'll give you three. Before I begin, a distinction. You seem to have conflated drone and AI warfare. Drone warfare is a legitimate strategy, AI warfare is just a warhawk's pipe dream. First: resource drain. Ai fought wars would drag on for much, much longer, as there would be less of a moral component, the public would not have to face the counter-urge to war, that being drafts. Fathers and brothers and sons would be dragged to the front lines no more, rather, they would be operators and engineers. This would ultimately lead to economic ruin, as each machine has a price, and to defeat ten thousand drones, one either needs more drones, or better defenses. Both are expensive. Both will be destroyed, both require replacements, thus furthering the crisis. Second: It could lead to cascade defeats. Wars fought by AIs could easily lead to cascade defeat scenarios if the enemy simply quietly learns a trick in the code, thus leading to massive land swaps, and political instability. This in turn would make it more difficult to occupy land for long periods of time, as areas would not be truly secure, due to the asynchronous nature of AI warfare. Third: There are phenomenally easy ways to defeat drones, they would be weakened by artificial intelligence drive. EMPs are easy to build, they simply require electricity, magnets, and wires. Given a strong enough EMP, one would knock out or destroy all electronic components, which would disturb power grids. Boots on the ground are always going to be more versatile than any machine, due to the simple fact that man has yet to be bested by machine in intelligence. LLMs only mimic, chess computers are great at a simple game of numbers, but ultimately, man remains its superior. Artificial general intelligence is a long, long ways off if it is even possible at all, in spite of sam altman's sayings. The point at which every machine may contain an AGI? that is even farther. AI assisted warfare is only really useful as a way to defeat a larger force on a budget. Russia is a paper dragon, and it would be against china's interests to start a war with the united states. AI warfare would be dangerous to civilians and cheap, not useful against a well maintained military. I hope you forget the word cringe. It is a useless idea which you use to restrain emotion and compassion. I hope, too, that this helps. In spite of it all.
