After spending a month with my AI obsessed father, my views have slightly changed, yes at this current moment my argument still stands, but it wasn’t always like this, I can totally see AI art being an actual art form in another universe, and for a little while that kinda was the case, I heard that artists still had some issues with it but, partially due to early AI art looking like, that, the issues weren’t really that serious. But through greed, ignorance and legitimately the worst PR I have EVER seen, all that potential goes down the drain. It also really doesn’t help that AI “artists” are some of the most toxic people ever, and they’re extreme capitalists, now I don’t have too many problems with capitalism by itself, however, AI artists and people like them take it to an extreme that is unhealthy for a society, and art is an easy target because doing art for anything more than a side project is very difficult (now in my opinion the best way to deal with this is to give artists space to do art as side projects but at the same time, if artists want to do that for a job, I’m note gonna shame them (I am gonna ask why though because I just don’t get it as someone who cannot dedicate my time to anything)). Yet, sometimes I wonder, what if all this didn’t happen, what if AI art actually became a viable art form, and how could it be a viable art form, now I don’t see that happening with AI art being as popular as it is now, but it doesn’t have to be, one thing weird about me is that, I unironically have a soft spot for early AI art, especially stuff like Liminal Land (which is also why I kinda think the AI looks better with the poison stuff on it), so, if it stayed like this, maybe artists might actually respect it? Just a thought. Yet still, here we are, in quite possibly the worst timeline for AI art, I hate it with all I have, yet I still feel pity for it, art is weird, isn’t it?
