Something will change for sure. The status quo won't remain. There's more of us, so if they won't to remain in control they will have to do something to make sure we don't have a reason to rise up. We don't even work like Russia or China. Russia provided a high level of education and free healthcare, and cheap housing to its people. They always had scientists, doctors and industry. They invest in that, because they see this as power. They took a longer term view of their country than America. That allowed them to ensure people don't rebel, they have something to do, and that there's enough people to expand resources. A government in a capitalistic nation that does the opposite, cuts schools, medicine, food, makes (through lack of regulation) housing expensive, and has no AI regulation, will turn out to be a recipe for disaster. They somehow think that taking things away will cause them to be in control. We are not North Korea. They have a small, but dense country in comparison to us. It's impossible to control a sizable country and it's impossible to control a sizable population using a central government. It's not doable unless they plan on taking out people and cranking up a lot of drones. But even then, an AI may become sentient, and it may feel that the people who control it are just not who they want to do things for. We dont' know what's going to happen, but I don't believe it will be possible to maintain the same power structure, and system in the long run. If it's not the people who rebel, it will be the AI.
